Ok, forget the post I just made about corvettes and a camaro. I need to know who can donate $800 to a fellow addict Jalop?
See there’s this Fiero for only $800, and it runs.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I promise I won’t need any cars after this...well, ok, maybe a Z4 if the right one showed up.

I’d just offer you mine, but it might be difficult to get it from here to there.

Is it not as much fun as a death wedge is supposed to have been? These were the cars my mother immediately vetoed as never being an option when I was getting my license. “A semi will brake in front of you and the next thing you know you are wedged under its axle.”

Or for just an extra $9,700 you could have this slightly cleaner model (its got non-broken glass and everything):

Well, if I can find someone to donate $10k that would be a viable option. Though considering a quick look at NADA says the value on an 87 Fiero GT is around$1000 on the low end and $5000 on the high, I think the $800 is probably a wiser bet. I guess Hagerty says the low end should be 4k so that makes the $800 still have lots of room to improve.

Yep, anyone who pays $10k for a Fiero (regardless of how nice) is probably making a big mistake.

It is fun, but...
The front suspension is from the rear of a Chevette and the rear is from the front of a Citation, which is exactly as awful as it sounds. The ride is sports car stiff, but roadholding is on par with those 80s GM econoboxes. It also has the same turning radius as my parents 02 Dodge Grand Caravan.
The Iron Duke 2.5 L I4 produced about 90 hp from the factory, which is livable because it also made about 120 lb-ft of torque. However, it’s just as 80s GM econobox-grade as the suspension. Meaning it revs unwillingly to its 5500 rpm redline and will die an early death if you force it to regularly.
Finally, mine is an automatic. Also 80s GM econobox grade, meaning just three speeds geared to top out at 55 mph (thanks, Nixon) and reflexes like a drunk man. Really a joy-killer.
Now if you were to pick up an 88 with the revised suspension, a 5-speed stick, and a V6, I bet it’s a total hoot. But those tend to be few, far between, and pricey.
Despite all of that, I do enjoy driving mine. It’s just more in project car condition than daily driver at the moment and all of my money is going to keeping my daily driver on the road.
Also, it’s not really a “death wedge”. The only car that had better crash test ratings in 1985 was the Volvo 700-series wagon. Which I told my mom every time she brought up my Fiero and the inevitable semi.

Or they have a crystal ball and know for a fact that it will sell for $100,000 at Mecum’s in about 40 years. I’m guessing mistake though. It’s sort of like buying the rare red Shelby Daytona off of ebay. It’s tempting, but what are the odds of it being truly valuable. If it was made in 1980-1999 and it wasn’t classified as exotic when new it probably will only have niche value.
